Terrible - Avoid.

***Avoid***

Horrendous customer service experienced.

Money taken from my account - ZipCar proven to be completely in the wrong with undeniable evidence. (Got a £150.00 fine for not returning the key & apparently stealing it - I had to get fleet support to lock it themselves as the app has issues & then the car was used by someone else within 30minutes of me dropping it off & locking it - so go figure how that’s possible if I stole the key) no common sense applied at all.

No empathy, no care, no effort, no communication.

Do not book - look at the star rating.

They'd cancel your trip the night before, unreliable

They have very few seven seaters in Toronto and are very unreliable and would cancel on you the night before!

Imagine planning to taking a road trip to Niagara Falls, taking a day off work, buying several car seats, making other bookings and reservations and they would just cancel on you like that.

My penalty ticket was lost and then passed to the debt collectors

Zipcar failed to notify me about a penalty ticket which was then passed to DEBT COLLECTORS. Which I found out 12 months (!) after the incident.
I ended up paying c. £300 for the offence I was not even aware of.

August 2021: I had a rental with Zipcar. Apparently, had a traffic offence which I was not notified about back then.

August 2022: I'm getting a paper letter from a debt collector agency saying I have an outstanding debt of c. £300.

It turned out that Zipcar failed to notify me about the penalty ticket back in 2021. Therefore, it was not paid on time and ended up with debt collectors.
Which I figured out only in August 2022, 1 year after the incident.

Zipcar support was absolutely horrendous.

First, they general support were taking ages to connect me to the relevant team (violations), even though I had a hard deadline with the collectors (1 week left) which I emphasised to them several times.

And them the violations team showed no interest in and understanding of my situation, even though it was clearly caused by a flaw in their notification procedure.

Needless to say, it took us 5-6 email interactions until I finally saw the scanned copy of the actual penalty ticket I had to pay for.

CONCLUSION: I have been Zipcar customer for nearly 4 years, using them very often and spreading a good word within my circle.

They've now effectively robbed me for £300, and have made me through humiliating experience of having and paying the collectors' debt.
The worst of all, they did not even admit any flaws from their side, and showed no respect and compassion.

With regret, I'm now closing my account and will make sure my case is known to as many existing users as possible, so that they are aware of what risks they are actually exposed to.

I'm happy to provide the debt collectors' enforcement notice and the penalty ticket with dates and all the details upon request.

Worst customer support and cannot fully…

Worst customer support and cannot fully comprehend English. The last customer support I talked to, already found the issue, but put me on the phone for 40 minutes just to issue my refund. I can tell he was working at home due to background noises. So, who knows if he was doing something else online before finishing with me over the phone. These gig apps need to stop hiring customer supports from different countries.

Zip car promised service to rent…

Zip car promised service to rent vehicles if you sign up - so I paid the application fee for me and my girlfriend on a family account, and the $8/month fee. Despite this, and having valid licenses, clean records, etc, her application was rejected. This resulted in us not being able to use the service.

When contacted, zip car would not release the money we paid, despite promising service upon application. Chat support admitted they had made a mistake in their software with temporary licensing, but that they couldn't manually override the application, and that she could not reply therefore.

Despite admitting wrongdoing, the company refuses to give us our money back. This is a negligent practice by the business bordering on illegal. They made a mistake preventing use of service, but want to keep nearly $100 in charges because of their mistake.

Poor service

We had an awful experience using Zipcar.
It started with no fuel car being present in the vehicle.

Later during our trip, I got logged out of the application that enables you to open the car. This happened in the middle of a national park without internet to log in.

The worst, however, was the day after; our phones could no longer connect to the car to open it.
Calling the support team didn't help, and since we had an international flight to catch, we had to take a 4h taxi drive to the airport.
After countless emails to the support team, Zipcar isn't willing to provide fair compensation for the incredibly expensive taxi journey.

I would leave 0 stars if I could

I would leave 0 stars if I could.
This was my first time using Zipcar and will definitely be my last. First, I was told before I even started my trip that 200 km's (per trip) were included in the membership price but a day after my trip ended, they charged me "overage miles" for the entire trip and did not deduct the 200 km's.
The car was also missing a fuel card. When I called to let them know, they said I would be reimbursed as soon as I submitted the receipts. I sent my receipts that same day and had to keep calling to get them to finally reimburse me.

I still haven't been reimbursed for the overage miles and have had no updates from the support team.

My advice would be to use at your own risk! I would recommend using a different company who is more transparent about their fees and charges. There are plenty of other carshare options that seem more reputable than Zipcar

No reason given for ineligibility

I called the company's number several times and spoke to Representatives and they mentioned they will get back to me as I wanted to know why I was not eligible when I met all the requirements listed on their website. I waited and just out of curiosity after 3 months I tried again and they said they could not give me the reason at all. It is a waste of time and money stolen as you have to give $26.66 whether or not you are eligible -- but if you are not --- you should get at least a valid reason as to why and not just "Sorry you are not eligible".

Garbage company denied my application…

Garbage company denied my application with my license still valid made no attempt to contact me to resolve issue. Charged despite service not provide. Go somewhere else.

$70 fee billed without warning. 4 days later? Threat of collections agency.

I would have given Zipcar a 3/5 until a recent incident. They did not send me an email, physical mail, SMS, or phone call notifying me that they were going to charge me a $70 yearly renewal fee. They subsequently failed to charge my deactivated card on file. I contacted their support team (with web form) on the same day and have not heard back (5 days and counting). Four days after the charge failure, they sent me an automated email that said "If you're not using your membership, please pay this balance and deactivate your membership in your account settings." A customer shouldn't have to pay a yearly fee to close an account. Anyway, I have been on hold waiting to connect with their support team for 10 minutes. I will update this review if I am able to speak with someone or something changes.
